After completing a research study about women in their 60s and then completing a master’s program through the oldest and largest school of gerontology at the University of Southern California, I am devoting myself to getting out the word on how to age well. There is plenty of scary and confusing information out there. This blog will appear regularly to provide thoughts—sometimes radical, but always encouraging—to help you navigate this exciting chapter of life with a smile on your face.
From all of the coursework and research findings I have gone through over the past eight years, one point has become abundantly clear: what you think and believe has a profound effect on the way you age. Rather than move on auto-pilot, when you consciously direct your mindset and perspective, you can greatly enhance your well-being.
If you’re interested in a better experience of aging, look for a new posting here every Sunday. Sometimes there will be information about things you can do to improve your health. Sometimes there will be tips for keeping up your stamina or improving your memory, or insights into how relationships influence your aging experience. And I’ll tell you about great books, movies, and more.
Aging is happening not just to you, but to populations all around the world. It’s time to understand as much as you can so you can make the most of it. When you need to feel better about growing older, when you are ready to explore new possibilities, when you want to overcome negative ageism, stop by. And feel free contact me or leave a reply to let me know what issues you would like to see discussed. Here’s to learning to thrive!
